AG over alleged assault of Latif Iddrisu,Multimedia sues IGP

Multimedia group limited has sued the officer of Police (IGP) and also the attorney General for GH¢10 million in compensatory damagesfor alleged assault of its employees, Latif Iddrisu by policemen on March 27, 2018.

Mr Iddrisu, the primary litigator, a journalist, was mistreated by policemen whereas covering news of the arrest of former Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress at the police headquarters.

Multimedia group limited, the second litigator aforesaid that mister Iddrisu was mistreated within the line of duty on the day of the incident.

The plaintiffs aforesaid that the said occasion or event involved investigations over serious crimes together with the law-breaking of treason, that angry public interest and saw a bit of voters massing up at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters.

In their statement of claim signed by Counsel Samson Lardi Anyenini, the first litigator avers that whereas at the entrance to the premises physical exercise his profession and constitutional duties/rights, officers of initial suspect unlawfully and while not provocation mistreated band battered him.

It is the case of plaintiffs that the officer of Police having didn’t pursue settlement and compensation it planned at the National Media Commission (NMC) isn’t minded to require any steps to assure plaintiffs of justice unless compelled by the court.

Plaintiff contended that they need suffered varied economic and different losses as a direct results of the aforesaid assault and battery of first litigator by officers of the primary suspect.

Having suffered injuries as a results of the assault on the first litigator, plaintiffs declared that mister Iddrisu received medical attention including at the Trust and Korle-Bu Teaching hospitals wherever varied tests and examinations including CT Scans, X-Rays and Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) evaluations were applied by skilled physicians, ENT Specialist, physician Specialist and neurologist.

The facts are that,  Mr Iddrisu was angrily shouted “to get off” for asking a harmless question to help him make an accurate report of the event.

Plaintiff aforesaid that he was embarrassed and put in fear of damage by the threatening conduct of the peace officer who was standing by a police control vehicle that litigator enquired to grasp the precise name for same.

The aforesaid officer, whose identity is however to be best-known violently control mister Iddrisu by his shirt, force and maltreated him within the face.

The litigator fell on the bottom whereas different policemen subjected him to severe beatings.

The policemen allegedly used the butt of a gun to hit mister Iddrisu many times within the head.

Mr Iddrisu was badly slashed and begun to vomit blood.

The multimedia group limited is thus seeking an order for special damages within the total of GH¢10 million, an order for exemplary and aggravated damages, an order for general damages and costs together with legal fees.

The plaintiffs conjointly asked for a declaration that officers of the Ghana Police Service of that the IGP is that the head and has operational management, committed the torts of assault and battery on mister Iddrisu within the normal course of their work on March 27, 2018.

They are conjointly asking the court to declare that the ghana Police Service of that the IGP is head and has operational management committed the wrongful conduct of imprisonment against mister Iddrisu within the course of their work.

The plaintiffs wished a declaration that defendants are vicariously to blame for the acts of officers of the Ghana Police Service.

The plaintiffs urged the court to create an order for indemnity within the total of GH¢10,200.49.
