Nigeria apologises to ‘fugitive’ coronavirus patient

The authorities in Nigeria’s northeastern Borno country have apologised to a Covid-19 patient after it changed into erroneously announced that she had escaped from an isolation centre in the city of Maiduguri.

She was 1 of  2 patients authorities said had fled from a treatment centre. The other patient was traced to his residence in Maiduguri where was seen in a “critical” condition. He is undergoing treatment in hospital.

The autorities apologised to the supposedly runaway patient when she turned herself in the hospital.

In a statement, Borno state government stated it emerged the affected person turned into now not informed that she had tested positive for the virus and had to be in isolation.

Health officials at the moment are tracing people that may have had touch with the cases.

Borno state has showed 30 cases of coronavirus so far. It is considered unprotected to the lay out of coronavirus due to the continued decade-lengthy Boko Haram insurgency that has displaced more than 2 million people in the state.
