Mavis Hawa Koomson, the MP for the Awutu Senya East, says she fired a gun at a electorate registration centre in her constituency.
“None of my guys had weapons on then while we got to the centre. I fired the shots myself,” the MP, who’s also Special Development Initiatives Minister, informed Adom FM.
She add on that the gunshot was a way of defensing herself at the registration centre because her police escort had not began operating that day.
The MP indicated she went to the area due to the fact she heard her opponent had bussed some people from different locations to the registration centre.
“I’m a Member of Parliament, I want to shield myself. It was at dawn, my police escort had not started operating yet. So that is mechanism I have embrace in his absence,” she said.
On Monday the Kasoa Peace Town Top Hill Down polling station was closed down by the officers of the Electoral Commission after gun-wielding guys stormed the premises.
Some armed guys of the MP numbering about 15 arrived at the registration centre around 8 am and attempted to sack some prospective voters
The NDC Parliamentary Candidate Naa Koryoo Okunor then accused the sitting MP of being the mastermind.
Meanwhile, the police say 4 people arrested in connection to the incident.
