Famed actress Rosemond Brown well known as Akuapem Poloo has been sentenced to 90 days in jail by the Circuit Court in Accra. She was convicted to 90 days on each count but the court stated, the sentence must run at once.
This means she will only serve 90 days prison term which is 3 months. The Court conducted over by Her Honour Mrs Christiana Cann, stated such cases in becoming prevalent in society and Institutions including the court should act.
The court stated it took into rumination all the prayer for alleviation before arriving at the decision. EIB Network’s Court Correspondent Murtala Inusah reviews that Akuapem Poloo who was weeping all day broke down in tears in the courtroom.
Previous to her sentencing, the court stated, the outcomes of her pregnancy test was negative.
Akuapem Poloo was on Wednesday convicted on her own plea by the Circuit Court in Accra after pleading guilty to charges.
She was hitted with 3 charges which includes publication of nude materials with her seven-year-old son which she pleaded not guilty while she was first sued however changed her plea on Wednesday.
The court presided over by Her Honour Christina court delayed her sentencing to today, April 16, 2021 for her to go through a pregnancy test to make sure she was not pregnant before her sentencing is passed.
The pregnancy test instructed by the court is a demand by law to make sure that, before a woman who pleaded guilty in court is convicted, they should know her status.
She was therefore held into custody for the prosecution to take her to any Government hospital to run the preganacy test and produce the results today.
During her sentencing
The straightforward actress is facing 3 charges of publication of obscene materials, engaging in domestic violence, a conduct that in any way impairs another individual’s privacy or uprightness and engaging in domestic violence namely conduct that in any way diminish or is likely to diminish from another individual’s dignity and worth as a human being.
Rosemond who had showed her nude picture with her son on social media on June 30, 2020 pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
Brief information of the case presented to the court by the prosecution led by Chief Inspector Agartha Asantewaa were that the complainant is Bright K. Appiah, the Director of Child Rights International Ghana.
According to the prosecution, on June 30, 2020, the defendant person celebrated her son’s 7th birthday and she took her nude photos together with her son who was also half-naked and posted same on her Instagram page which went viral on social media.
She informed the court that, the photos attracted comments, putting on that the behaviour of the accused person was likely to detract from the dignity of her 7-year-old son amongst others.
Chief Inspt. Agartha informed the court that the complainant petitioned the Director-General Criminal Investigations Directorate and the matter was stated the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit.
Akuapem Poloo, she stated was arrested and in her warning statement, admitted posting the nude photo with her son unintentionally.
But, the prosecution held that Rosemond had intentionally published the nude photograph together with her son.
